Silverstone UTC

This highly prestigious project was part of the first batch of UTCs to be developed and is based next to the ‘Home of Motorsport’ – Silverstone. With a keen emphasis on Precision Engineering, this new college has been specifically built for 14-18 year old students who are interested in entering the competitive world of Motorsport Engineering, which is prevalent in the area.

Project Outline

Technology Supplies was approached directly by the Consultant appointed by the UTC and Northampton County Council to assist with the planning and scoping out for the project. Working alongside these and other stakeholders, including our client Interserve (the appointed construction company), Technology Supplies’ Project Manager was able to build up the specification over a 6 month period, providing the final completed schedule along with all relevant M&E information. Working directly with the UTC Principal, Technology Supplies’ Project Manager visited potential suppliers in order to assess the best and most suitable machinery and equipment for this state of the art engineering facility.

The Installation

The project was completed in 2 phases to suit the requirements of our Client’s Building Design & Programme of works. The initial phase incorporated workshops designed to show progression through the Design/Build process. Many varied areas, from Woodwork to Form Moulds, to bespoke designed PODs for Extraction and Vacuum in Composite Manufacturing were installed. The second phase involved general Engineering Workshops with high end machinery including Bailiegh, CNC and Plasma Machines for Precision Engineering and Welding & Assembly areas.

This large project required considerable expertise and multistakeholder management, made possible through Technology Supplies’ expertise. We were able to work :

1 - Alongside the Principal (Neil Patterson), visiting potential suppliers to obtain best machines/deals/packages

2 - With Interserve design team to ensure and co-ordinate best and correct layouts

3 - Together with main contractor Interserve and a number of Subcontractors M&E teams to ensure correct building services were installed and in position.

“Just a note of appreciation for all the work you and your engineers have done for us. The workshops are looking really good – cannot wait to get on with some practical work. The two guys who have been working here have been through everything with me and left everything clean and tidy – I think they have done a fantastic job.” Interserve
